Activity 3: Genes
When we say a gene is expressing itself, what does "gene expression" mean in relation to protein synthesis?
Gene expression is the process by which the information stored in a gene is used to produce either RNA molecules that encode for proteins or non-coding RNA molecules that have other functions. To put it simply, genes contain instructions that are essential for producing proteins. Specifically, these instructions (genetic information or DNA) are employed to go through the transcription and translation process of the central dogma to synthesize different proteins required by our body.
