When we say a gene is expressing itself, what does "gene expression" mean in relation to protein synthesis?
Gene expression is the process by which a gene is used to either make coding (for proteins) or non-coding RNA molecules. Protein synthesis is a process where proteins are made from amino acid monomers. The creation of coding RNA molecules in gene expression allows for protein synthesis to occur.
