(Anatomical Directional Terms)

 

  1. Elbow and shoulder – elbow is distal to the shoulder.
  2. Left and right shoulders – the left and right shoulders are contralateral to each other.
  3. Sternum and the humerus – the sternum is medial to the humerus.
  4. Heart and diaphragm - the heart is superior to the diaphragm.
  5. Knees and tibia – the knees are superior to the tibia.
  6. Liver and gallbladders – the liver is anterior to the gallbladders.
  7. Spleen and liver – the spleen is lateral to the liver.
  8. Kidneys and small intestines -the kidneys are posterior to the small intestines.
  9. 3rd and 5th digits – the 3rd digit is lateral to the 5th digit.
  10. Sternum and thymus glands – the sternum is anterior to the thymus glands.
