1. Distinguish between somatic and reproductive cell division and explain the importance of each.
Reproductive cells are restricted to the reproductive organs, whereas somatic cells are found throughout the body. The main difference between reproductive and somatic cells is that gametes have a haploid genome, whereas somatic cells have a diploid genome.
Somatic cells make up our body’s tissues and organs which is therefore crucial because they comprise many components of the body. This includes our internal organs, connective tissues, and bones. Whereas the reproductive cells are the sex cells or gametes that involve in sexual reproduction. They produce the supporting cells in multicellular organisms (us) wherein our body frequently requires numerous rounds of cell reproduction to produce new individuals.
2. What is the significance of interphase?
In the discussion it was stated that during the interphase, the cell carries on every life process except division. It allows the cell to grow, replicate its DNA, and make final preparations for cell division, or mitosis. Indeed making this phase a very important one for cell division.
