1. Distinguish between somatic and reproductive cell division and explain the importance of each.

Somatic and reproductive cell division otherwise known as mitosis and meiosis are two different types of cell division. In mitosis, what is produces are two identical nuclei that came from the original nucleus. In meiosis what is produced are four nuclei but with them containing only half of the chromosomes that are found in the original cell. With mitosis it will produce new cells that are integral in growth and/or replacement of cells. While meiosis is an integral part of reproduction, because of the fact that it provides the chromosomes as well as the genetic variations that will be shown at a later stage.

2. What is the significance of interphase?

It is considered as the preparatory phase for cell division. In interphase, this is where cells mature or grow, as well as their chromosomes being replicated, which is what allows them to undergo cell division.
