When we say a gene is expressing itself, what does "gene expression" mean in relation to protein synthesis?

In relation to protein synthesis, gene expression is expressing itself by the expression or processing of genes into proteins. It consists of two stages; transcription or the copying or certain DNA so that a specific molecule of RNA is produced, and translation or translating RNA into the corresponding amino acid sequence that results in protein formation. Here, it can be observed that gene expression entails protein production, implying that gene expressions and protein synthesis may be considered similar processes.
