You do not consume alcoholic beverages, but your friend does, and he consumes these drinks regularly and in large amounts, If we could examine your liver cells and compare them with your friend, would we see a difference in smooth ER and peroxisomes?

In this situation, the concept of cells and their differences in the number of organelles depending on cell types applies. The situation presents two people (the friend and I) with varying lifestyles; one (friend) is an alcoholic and the other (me) is not. With that being said, in examining and comparing our liver cells, we would be able to see evident differences in the amount of smooth endoplasmic reticulum and peroxisome organelles. There would be more smooth endoplasmic reticulum and peroxisome organelles in the liver cells of my friend since there is a need for more of them in him for the detoxification of the alcohol he drinks on a regular basis.
