The healthy public policy for cigarette-smoke free zones aims to protect everyone from the harmful substances from cigarette smoking, especially the non-smokers. This policy provides limited area where civilians can smoke to avoid spreading the smoke throughout the city or province.
This lessens the chance of Inhaling the chemicals from smoke unintentionally. It provides the children more protection since the effects are higher due to concentration difference in coparison with adults. It also helps in lessening third hand smoking due to the limited spaces where smoke can stick. Ultimately, with the lesser exposure, the chances of developing cardiovascular diseases and respiratory diseases reduce as smoking acts as a risk factor for these diseases.
However, nicotine dependence affects the success of this health policy. Because of the dependence of people, they tend to smoke whenever they feel like they need to. Many disregards the policy because first, there are no enforcers for this policy. Second, the smoking hubs are not well maintained. Third, there are very limited smoking areas which are accessible to the public. Other smokers still does not follow the policy even the nature of their occupations are public service such as being a jeepney driver.
This policy has a big impact to one's health, but the implementation of the policy is not being followed. To achieve the goal of this policy, view smoking as a psychological and medical problem, maintain and implement smoking areas, and provide huge promotion to people how it benefits the public especially the loved ones of smokers.
