What is your opinion about the practice of family planning? Are you for it or against it?
- I absolutely support the practice of family planning. The practice of family planning allows families to realize their desired timing, spacing, and number of children in accordance with their socioeconomic, emotional, and psychological capacity ultimately upholding responsible parenthood. More importantly, it reduces the number of abortions overall, especially unsafe abortions, eventually, improving maternal health and child survival in the country. It also addresses our country's problems in teenage pregnancy, by empowering individuals by providing them with a choice and making informed decisions with regard to their reproductive health.
Are you in favor of the Reproductive Health Law and its provisions? Elaborate your answer.
- As mentioned earlier, I am for the practice of family planning and responsible parenthood, thus, I am also in favor of the Reproductive Health Law and its provisions. Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 or Republic Act No. 10354 provides for a National Policy on Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health, specifically, it provides universal access to methods of contraception, fertility control, sexual education, and maternal care in the Philippines. Moreover, it also mandates reproductive health education in government schools and recognizes a woman’s right to post-abortion care as part of the right to reproductive healthcare. I support this law as I believe this empowers individuals, especially women, to be able to make informed decisions regarding their health and families and participate more fully and equally in their society. Moreover, this law addresses a number of maternal and child care problems that our country is facing.
