"Good Nutrition is a foundation of a child's survival, health, and development"

In all aspects and ages, nutrition is one of the most important components of an individual's health and overall wellbeing. This is especially true for children, where proper nutrition not only ensures and enables the continued optimum functioning of various body systems, but most importantly contributes greatest to growth and development as an individual. A significant portion of one's physical and neurobiological developments occur during their formative years and are thus reliant on consistent and proper nutrition to promote these growths. During this critical period, imbalanced nutrition or deficiencies in a child's nutritional needs would hinder them from achieving their full cognitive and physiological potentials at best, and put them at increased risk of death at worst. UNICEF (2004) shows that malnutrition comes in forms such as stunting, wasting, overweight, and hidden hunger. All of these, in their own ways, delay and may possibly impair development permanently. Which so much at stake regarding a child's overall wellbeing and potential future, it is only right to emphasize good and proper nutrition as a foundation or primary need with regards to a child's survival, health, and development.
