In response to Making Pregnancy Safer, what are the current programs in the country to address maternal mortality and morbidity? Cite at least 1.

The National Safe Motherhood program by the Department of Health aims to improve the health and welfare of women throughout their pregnancy. Communication between local government partners will be utilized in addressing the access to quality healthcare of Filipino women for a safer pregnancy and delivery. Included in its priority agenda until 2030 are adolescent pregnancy and meeting the unmet needs for family planning contraceptives.

What can you suggest to decrease our maternal mortality and morbidity in the country? Give at least 3 suggestions.

Based on the top causes of maternal mortality and morbidity, we can see that these are modifiable factors. One of them is unsafe abortion which is a direct result of unwanted pregnancy. We need to address the root cause of this factor by strengthening our sex education especially to the younger generation for them to better understand the changes and processes that their body will need to undergo so that they can seek help and advises about their concerns. Having access to this information will make them aware of the possibilities that may occur including but not limited to safe sex and planned pregnancies. Another factor that should be addressed is the lack of prenatal care. This matter can be addressed by letting mothers, especially the new ones,  know about the importance of having access to prenatal care. In this way, better pregnancy outcomes will be recorded. Lastly, implementation of the policies related to SGD should be properly observed and monitored so that we can really achieve it by 2030.
