1. In response to Making Pregnancy Safer, what are the current programs in the country to address maternal mortality and morbidity? Cite at least 1.

In the quest to make pregnancy safer, the Philippines has created the Nation Safe Motherhood Program, with the vision of having Filipino women gaining full access to health services towards making their pregnancy and delivery safer. The program has two objectives namely: collaborating with Local Government Units in delivering sustainable and cost effective health services to disadvantaged women to enable them to safely give birth in health facilities near their homes; as well as establishing core knowledge base and support systems that facilitate the delivery of quality maternal and newborn health services in the country.

2. What can you suggest in order to decrease our maternal mortality and morbidity in the country? Give at least 3 suggestions.

The goal of decreasing the maternal mortality and morbidity in our country can be solved by better accessibility to high quality healthcare. In this case it would specifically be,

  • access to family planning services as well as meeting the nutritional requirements of mothers
  • access to proper delivery care performed by professional health workers experienced in the matter
  • access to postpartum care to ensure that the health of the mother and child is not compromised after birth
