DOH Administrative Order 2008-0029 “Implementing Health reforms for rapid Reduction of Maternal and Neonatal Mortality”

This policy was implemented to reduce the maternal and neonatal mortality by providing a package of maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition (MNCHN) services to pregnant women, and to mothers and their newborn child. This aims to meet the following intermediate results:

  • Every pregnancy is wanted, planned, and supported;

  • Every pregnancy is adequately manage throughout its course;

  • Every delivery is facility-based and managed by skilled birth attendants/skilled health professionals; and

  • Every mother and newborn pair secures proper postpartum and newborn care with smooth transitions to the women’s health care package for the mother and child survival package for the newborn

  1. What can you suggest in order to decrease our maternal mortality and morbidity in the country? Give at least 3 suggestions.

- Make sure that services from antepartum to intrapartum to postpartum up to newborn and child care must be available and easily accessible to everyone, especially those who belong to lower socioeconomic status and those who live in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

- Educate couples or pregnant women about the early warning signs and symptoms of pregnancy complications and must be instructed to seek healthcare immediately

- Ensure the quality of services provided by healthcare workers to pregnant women through adequate and appropriate trainings to enhance their skills and develop new ones, and to update their knowledge and awareness of the advancements in the practice
