In response to Making Pregnancy Safer, what are the current programs in the country to address maternal mortality and morbidity? Cite at least 1.

In response to Making Pregnancy Safer, the Depart of Health launched the Safe Motherhood Program in 2008 with the goal of providing Filipino Women access to quality healthcare for a safer pregnancy and delivery through rational and responsive policy direction to local government partners. With the creation of the Sustainable Development goals in 2015, the program included adolescent pregnancy and family planning into its agenda.

What can you suggest in order to decrease our maternal mortality and morbidity in the country? Give at least 3 suggestions.

  • Proper education. Giving adequate education to women of reproductive age, pregnant women, and their partners is essential in the mitigation and prevention of maternal mortality and morbidity.
  • Adequate Access. Preconception and maternal care must be accessible not just in terms of location but financially. Providing access provides women with the needed checkups, supplements, and medication to keep healthy before, during, and after their pregnancy journey.
  • Better public healthcare facilities and institutions. Women must be given the best possible care during pregnancy. By improving public healthcare facilities, healthcare services improve as well and more people are able to receive quality healthcare, especially the marginalized, thus, decreasing maternal mortality and morbidity.
