Welcome to your last course in BS Nursing!
N-121.1 allows you to demonstrate the beginning competencies of a first-level nurse in the hospital setting by integrating and applying concepts, theories, and principles of nursing practice. This includes the development of their personal and professional values, leadership and management skills, and research capabilities.
Your clinical experiences include Primary Nursing, Staff Nursing, and Head Nursing, while key activities beyond hospital duty include developing a quality improvement proposal, presenting a case study, and organizing a seminar.
You will prepare a proposal for a Quality Improvement Project to address areas for enhancement in your respective units. These should be informed by assessing your units’ work environment and aimed at enhancing safe and quality care.
Outputs for this group work include a 30-minute presentation and a QI Proposal document. Please see the Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric.
This activity aims to build your competencies in presenting your critical analysis, nursing management, and insights from a selected patient under your care. This builds on your skills in presenting research findings, using evidence-based and theory-based care, and documenting nursing practice decisions. Hence, each group will select one patient who has been under your care for at least two weeks and present their case.
Outputs for this group work include a 30-minute presentation and a Case Study document. Please see the Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric.
Continuing education supports lifelong learning and professional practice. We recognize that there are issues and practice updates that will help prepare you for your role as professionals that may not have been expounded on during your early Nursing years. Hence, each group will develop and implement a Seminar on a topic of your choice.
Outputs for this group work include a 2-hour seminar and a Seminar Plan. Please see the Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric.
Primary Nursing is a nursing care-delivery model that underscores the provision of comprehensive, individualized, and sustained care where a single nurse (usually at the point of initial contact) is identified as the primary caregiver for the patient throughout their hospital stay (admission to discharge). To read more about Primary Nursing, you may visit these links 1, 2.
The Primary Nursing model will serve as your guiding principle during your first three (3) weeks of duty. You will take the lead in their care by creating an individualized 24-hour nursing care plan, providing direct nursing care throughout your shifts, ensuring coordination and collaborative care across the healthcare team, and advocating for your patient and their carers.
In this role, you will care for a maximum of four (4) patients requiring Levels I-III based on the provided Patient Classification Guide.
Please accomplish your Peer Evaluation through the link provided. This reflects the evaluation of your peers across the three (3) group activities - QI proposal, Seminar, and Case Presentation.
