  • Welcome to HI 298!

    HI 298 is a seminars course. Students are expected to read the assigned readings, raise questions and debate ideas.

    At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

    1. Identify problems within the domain of health informatics.
    2. Propose evidence-based solutions within the domain of health informatics.
    3. Write effective white papers that clearly define problems and elucidate proposed solutions.

    Grading:

    • 60% Three white papers
      • Each white paper is allotted 20%
      • Every milestone for the white paper is allotted 5%
    • 10% Attendance
    • 10% Academic integrity
    • 20% Webinar presentation

    We will meet on Zoom every Wednesday 9-10 am.

    Each white paper is allotted 4 weeks for completion (milestones below). The final deliverable is a webinar presentation by the class to the MSHI community.

  • 31 August - 6 September

    A white paper is an authoritative document that aims to convince its audience that the proposed solution is the best for the given problem. The paper combines expert knowledge (yours!) and research to argue for specific recommendations. With your white paper, the reader should be able to understand the relevant issues, consider the solutions and make decisions.

    Each white paper is allotted 4 weeks for completion. The following are the milestones:

    • Week 1: Introduction and Problem Definition
    • Week 2: Solution Summary
    • Week 3: Detailed Solution
    • Week 4: Completed Paper (should include the abstract and call to action)

  • 7 September - 13 September

    The white paper to be submitted should have the following structure:

    • Title
    • Abstract (or executive summary)
    • Introduction
    • Problem definition
    • Summary of solutions (high-level discussion of solutions)
    • Detailed solutions
    • Call to action

  • 14 September - 20 September

  • 21 September - 27 September

  • 28 September - 4 October
