Welcome to the Integrated Clinical Clerkship I in Anesthesiology : Introduction to Pain Management. As Anesthesiologists, we are tasked to provide excellent Acute Pain Management to our patients peri-operatively. As the founder of the Pain Clinic and part of the Philippine General Hospital's multidisciplinary pain management team, we take care of inpatient and outpatient cancer and non-cancer patients. During this rotation with us, it is our hope that you will have a better understanding of pain, its basic and clinical principles, to better equip you as you progress in your medical education. Later, you will realize that as a physician, it is your duty or ethical obligation to alleviate, if not eliminate, your patient's pain and suffering.
Since the onset of COVID-19 early last year, we have experienced a lot of new things. These new things can be viewed as good, bad, or who knows? As we embark on this academic year, we will have to adapt to the current situation, including the way we will "educate" ourselves. As it has been once said, education is not confined to the four walls of our classrooms. So bear with us faculty members, for we are also learning along the way in this crisis. Rest assured, we will also be cognizant and empathizing to your student dilemmas. After all, we are all in this together.
