  • GROWTH IN THE PROFESSION

When you first entered the UPCM, you  no doubt already had ideas about the kind of doctor you would like to be .  Whether that coincides with the  UPCM Vision/Mission  is something that you will have to judge for yourself .  This course would like to give you an opportunity to reconcile your personal views with  the  growth into the professional that UPCM has envisioned for you.  Write  your own  personal goals having reached this far in your medical education journey . Put the date on when you wrote it . This will be submitted to the course coordinator and will be shared with your mentors.  Dont forget to put your name .

You will need to watch two videos and then work with a small group  with 6 to 7 members  .  Your student LO would have made arrangements for the groupings. Share with each other your thoughts and feelings about the videos  .  Document the thoughts that came up  even in bulleted format .  After  the SGD,  your group will submit  the documented group thoughts  with a group reflection paper .  Do not forget to put the names of all the group members who actively participated in the discussion .

Submit the reflection paper to your student LO  who will then collate all group reports to be submitted to the course coordinator via email to jsisidrolapena@up.edu.ph

  • TRADITIONAL AND INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

Dr Rodrigo Ong a doctor of medicine and also an acupuncturist shall conduct the session via zoom. It shall be recorded and maybe sent to those who are unable to attend.

  • ASSIGNMENTS

You are requested to have a journal diary/ personal blog for this course in order to document insights  and experiences.  Make it a personal one . The journal will be shared with your mentors.

You will have  the following assignments  to be submitted  before or at the end of the first semester as well as  at the end of the second semester.

AT or before  the end of the first semester :

    1. Personal Goals. How do you see yourself as a health professional 5 years from now ?  This will be  the first entry in  your journal.

    2. After watching two videos , you are supposed to join a small group  with  6 - 7   participants to discuss insights gained or questions /concerns raised .  Discussions in small groups enable everyone to share  their own insights , define commonalities , recognize differences and  will likely broaden the perspective of  participants. The group can then come up with a summary reflection paper to be submitted either before or at the end of the first semester.

At end of the second semester:

At the end of every clinical rotation, the student is enjoined to write experiences or insights about the rotation. The aim is to bring to light how the rotation has helped the student grow into the kind of health professional that is consistent with his/her goals and that of the UPCM vision. This is NOT   a critique of the rotation rather how the experiences in the rotation impacted on the student's  professional growth.

The reports may include the following :

a] thoughts and feelings about the rotation and its impact on your growth as a health professional

b] questions or concerns  raised by the experience

    c]  insights about professionalism

d] experience/observations on the use of traditional integrative modalities if any

These journal will  be shown to the student's mentor .  Mentors can then be given a look into the dynamic development of the student into a health professional of the future.

    • FORUM and FEEDBACK

Students  are encouraged to ask questions and give insights in this forum . At the end of the  one week course in the first semester   a feedback session shall be conducted regarding the format and structure of the course . This shall be in a zoom plenary session with the students . The zoom link shall be given to the student LO for dissemination once the  course has started .
