Session 1: Overview of Medical Certification of Cause of Death (MCCOD)
This session will give you an overview of the Medical Certification of Cause of Death (MCCOD), the Philippine situation on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS), and their implication on the health status and programs of the country.

This session will discuss the nature of CRVS, its relationship with the Health Information Systems, and the importance and attributes of data standards and good data quality. It also emphasizes the role of physicians in the correct certification of vital events of birth and deaths.

This session will discuss the International Classification of Diseases version 10, its uses, how to use it, and its impact on medicine and public health.
Duration: 25 minutesSession 4: Death Registration: Legal Mandates, Rules, and Procedures
This session will cover the legal mandates and laws pertaining to MCCOD and the importance and uses of death certificate. The process and steps in death certification and registration will also be discussed in this session.
Duration: 30 minutesSession 5: Understanding Medical Certification of Death and its Principles
This session will make you understand the medical certification of death and its principles. It will discuss the guidelines for completing the medical certificate portion of the death certificate, and the issues and concerns in filling out the MCCOD.
Duration: 20 minutesSession 6: Guidelines for Reporting Causes of Death in Specific Population Groups
This session identifies the specific population groups that require special guidelines in medical certification of cause of death, and how to fill out death certificates of these identified population groups.
Duration: 20 minutesSession 7: Guidelines for Reporting Causes of Death in Specific Conditions
This session identifies the specific disease conditions that require special guidelines in medical certification of cause of death, and how to fill out death certificates of these identified disease conditions.
Duration: 25 minutesSession 8: Verbal Autopsy
This session will introduce verbal autopsy, its definition, why it is used, and the standard verbal autopsy process. It will also give us examples on the standard verbal autopsy instruments being used in the Philippines.
Duration: 10 minutesSession 9: Reviewing the Certificate of Death
This session will be a review on MCCOD based on correctness -- complete, consistent, and compliant with the latest ICD Standards. This will also familiarize the learners with MCCOD reminders for filling out the death certificates.
Duration: 10 minutesCase Analysis
This activity will measure your acquired knowledge and skills in correctly filling out the medical certificate of death through clinical cases of four specialties (Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, and Internal Medicine).
Duration: 60 minutesPosttest
This activity will measure the improvement of the learner's knowledge and skill in MCCOD after finishing the MCCOD eLearning course. A learner must reach the Minimum Passing Level of 23.5 points to be considered to have passed this MCCOD eLearning Course.
Duration: 25 minutesSmall Group Discussion
Clinical cases will be discussed through small group discussions facilitated by a Family and Community Medicine faculty to be done synchronously via remote learning.
