Course Description:  Development of a design of a unit of instruction within the participant’s area of teaching with particular consideration of the different available methods of instruction and their appropriateness for specific instructional situations in the health fields.

Content

 

This course introduces the learner to the principles and steps in the development of a unit of instruction.  It takes into consideration the local context where instructional design is to be implemented, to ensure the appropriateness of instructional methods and tools of evaluation.  This course gives students hands-on experiences in the systematic development of a unit of instruction.

 

Objectives

 

Upon completion of the course, the students should be able to:

  1. Explain the teaching-learning process
  2. Describe the major activities of the instructional design process
  3. Recognize factors to be considered in the design of instruction
  4. Formulate meaningful learning objectives
  5. Select and organize instructional content given the objectives
  6. Select teaching-learning strategies appropriate to the given objectives and content
  7. Construct valid evaluation tools appropriate to the given objectives
  8. Critique a given instructional design
  9. Design a unit of instruction showing congruence among objectives, content, teaching-learning strategies, and methods of evaluating student achievement
