Session 17 Guide

View

This session continues on the catabolism of carbohydrates and how energy can be derived from it. The pathways discussed here are the (1) electron transport chain, (2) shuttle mechanisms, (3) glycogenolysis, and (4) anaerobic respiration. From this session, you should be able to:

    • discuss cellular respiration as the major catabolic and energy- producing pathway of all cells
    • illustrate various catabolic pathways for carbohydrates

The following are your tasks for this session:Β

  1. Go through the Carbohydrate Catabolism II lesson. Answer the embedded questions in the lesson.
  2. As a group, answer the problem set on bioenergetics and carbohydrate catabolism.Β
