Amino Acid Biosynthesis

In amino acid biosynthesis, two main reactions take place:

  • Transamination reactions - add amino groups to the C skeletonsΒ
  • One-carbon transfers - via tetahydrofolate (THF); to extend the C skeleton

Most of the precursors of amino acids are derived from TCA intermediates or other carbohydrate intermediates. These precursors are then aminated to form amino acids. The videos below summarize amino acid biosynthesis.Β
