Discussion Forum Guidelines for Critical Appraisal in Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)

To facilitate learning and engagement in critical appraisal, follow these steps for your discussion post:

1. Select and Read Articles

• Choose at least two (2) peer-reviewed nursing journal articles that discuss evidence-based nursing interventions or therapies relevant to your current area of practice.

2. Identify a Clinical Problem & Formulate a PICO Question

• Based on the articles, identify a clinical problem.
• Construct a well-defined PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) question to guide your appraisal.
• Provide the full citation and links to the selected journal articles.

3. Appraise the Evidence

• Use the appropriate Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) Checklist to evaluate the quality and relevance of your selected studies.

4. Post Your Discussion

• Submit your discussion post, which should include:
  • Your PICO question
  • Summary and critical appraisal of the two (2) articles
  • Reflection on the applicability of the findings to your practice

5. Engage in Peer Learning

• Review and engage with your peers’ posts by providing constructive comments and insights.
