1. How does the food change in consistency and form?
- The food that we eat changes in its consistency and form as it undergoes digestion—both mechanically and chemically. As solid food enters our mouth, it’s crushed and grinded into bits by our teeth. As it moves further along into the digestive tract, enzymes and chemicals further change its form turning it into a mixture. The food that we eat is broken down into simplest forms such as glucose and amino acids which are absorbed by our body. Indigestible food then continues to be eliminated in the form of feces.
2. How could the body absorb the nutrients from the foods we eat?
- Our body absorbs nutrients with the help of various structures in our digestive system such as the small intestine. Part of the small intestine, the ileum, contains villi which help in the absorption of nutrients from foods into our bloodstream.
Note: I apologize for the late post as I had a problem with my VLE hence I couldn't view my subjects (nstp and n3). Thank you!
