1. How does the food change in consistency and form?

Food is broken down starting from the mouth. Once it arrives in the stomach, acids and powerful enzymes continue the process. The aforementioned two mechanisms alter the food's consistency and form.

2. How could the body absorb the nutrients from the foods we eat?

The digestive system breaks nutrients into small, easily absorbable parts that the body can absorb. Specifically, special cells help absorb nutrients across the intestinal lining into the bloodstream. The blood carries simple sugars, like amino acids, glycerol, and some vitamins and salt to the liver. Lastly, the liver stores, processes, and delivers nutrients to the rest of the body as needed.
