AFFECTED MUSCLES

1) Frontalis - Raising eyebrows and wrinkling the forehead

2) Orbicularis oculi - Closing eyelids

3) Orbicularis oris - Closing mouth and pursing lips

4) Buccinator - Pulls corner of mouth laterally

5) Platysma - Pulling down of mandible

 

MECHANISM OF MUSCLE WEAKNESS

  • Bell’s palsy is the inflammation and swelling of the seventh cranial nerve,  which is the nerve that controls facial muscles. 

 

OTHER SYMPTOMS

  • One-sided weakness or paralysis
  • Difficulty of speech
  • Loss of muscle control on one side of the face
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness
  • Seizures
  • Sudden loss of one or more senses
