Insertion: Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament

Action: Extends the knee joint

Locating the Vastus lateralis:

1. Position the baby at supine position

2. Locate the middle third of thigh between hip and knee

3. Injection should be given halfway between the hip and the knee (middle third of the muscle)

2.

Injection Site: Upper arm

Target Muscles: Deltoid

Origin: Lateral third of clavicle, acromion, and spine of scapula

Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus

Action: Flex, extend, rotate, and abduct the arm

Locating the Deltoid muscle:

1. Position the patient sitting or standing, have them relax their arm

2. Locate the acromion process (bony point on the shoulder)

3. Injection site is about 2-3 finger widths below the acromion process (thickest part of the muscle), middle of the muscle to avoid nerves and blood vessels
