Activity 1: Throwing a baseball overhead

  • Muscle 1: Deltoids

    • Action: Shoulder flexion; medial rotation

    • Innervation: Axillary nerve

  • Muscle 2: Triceps Brachii

    • Action: Elbow extension

    • Innervation: Radial nerve

Activity 2: Kicking a Ball

  • Muscle 1: Quadriceps femoris (rectus femoris)

    • Action: Extends the knee and assists with hip flexion

    • Innervation: Femoral nerve

  • Muscle 2: Gluteus maximus

    • Action: Extends and laterally rotates the hip, helping to drive the leg backward before the kick

    • Innervation: Inferior gluteal nerve

Activity 3: Doing sit-ups

  • Muscle 1: Transversus abdominis

    • Action: Compresses abdomen

    • nnervation: Thoracic spinal nerves T8–T12, iliohypogastric nerve, and ilioinguinal nerve.

  • Muscle 2: Rectus abdominis

    •  Action: Flexes vertebral column, flexes pelvis on thevertebral column.

    • Innervation: Thoracic spinal nerves T7–T12.

Activity 4: Breathing

  • Muscle 1: Diaphragm

    • Action: Contraction causes it to flatten, increasing volume in the thoracic cavity and leading to inhalation. Relaxation decreases the volume in the cavity leading to exhalation.

    • Innervation: Phrenic nerve

  • Muscle 2: External intercostals

    • Action: Contraction elevates ribs resulting in inhalation; relaxation depresses ribs resulting in exhalation.

    • Innervation: Thoracic spinal nerves T2–T12.
