1/ Throwing a baseball overhead

Muscle: Deltoid

Action: Flexes shoulder, lifts arm forward

Innervation: Axillary nerve

 

Muscle: Triceps Brachii

Action: Extends elbow, straightens arm as ball is released

Innervation: Radial nerve

 

2/ Kicking a ball

Muscle: Gluteus Maximus

Action: Extends the hip, pulls thigh backward after kicking or during follow-through.

Innervation: Inferior gluteal nerve

 

Muscle: Tibialis Anterior

Action: Dorsiflexes foot when preparing to strike ball with top of the foot.

Innervation: Deep fibular nerve

 

3/ Doing sit-ups

Muscle: Rectus Abdominis

Action: Brings chest toward pelvis.

Innervation: Thoracic Spinal Nerve

 

Muscle: Iliopsoas

Action: The iliopsoas pulls thigh toward abdomen.

Innervation: Femoral nerve

 

4/ Breathing

Muscle: Diaphragm

Action: Contracts and moves downward during inhalation.

Innervation: Phrenic nerve

 

Muscle: External Intercostals

Action: Contract during inhalation, elevating ribs and expanding thoracic cavity laterally and anteriorly.

Innervation: Intercostal nerves
