1. Throwing a Baseball Overhead

 

Muscle: Deltoid

Action: Flexes and medially rotates the arm; assists in raising the arm overhead.

Innervation: Axillary nerve

 

Muscle: Triceps brachii

Action: Extends the elbow and assists with shoulder extension during the throwing motion

Innervation: Radial nerve

 

2. Kicking a Ball

 

Muscle: Quadriceps femoris (rectus femoris)

Action: Extends the knee and assists with hip flexion

Innervation: Femoral nerve

 

Muscle 2: Gluteus maximus

Action: Extends and laterally rotates the hip, helping to drive the leg backward before the kick

Innervation: Inferior gluteal nerve

 

3. Doing Sit-Ups

 

Muscle: Rectus abdominis

Action: Flexes the vertebral column (spine), bringing the rib cage toward the pelvis

Innervation: Lower intercostal nerves and subcostal nerve

 

Muscle: Iliopsoas (psoas major and iliacus)

Action: Flexes the hip joint, pulling the thighs toward the abdomen during the sit-up motion

Innervation: Femoral nerve (iliacus) and L1-L3 nerves (psoas major)

 

4. Breathing

 

Muscle 1: Diaphragm

Action: Contracts during inhalation, moving downward to increase the volume of the thoracic cavity, allowing air to enter the lungs

Innervation: Phrenic nerve

 

Muscle : External intercostal muscles

Action: Elevates the ribs during inhalation, expanding the chest and aiding in lung expansion

Innervation: Intercostal nerves
