Muscles Affected:

  1. Frontalis (Frontal Belly of Occipitofrontalis)

  • Action: Raises the eyebrows and wrinkles the forehead.

  1. Orbicularis Oculi

  • Action: Closes the eyelids

  1. Orbicularis Oris

  • Action: Closes and protrudes the lips

  1. Buccinator

  • Action: Compresses the cheeks against the teeth

  1. Zygomaticus Major

  • Action: Elevates the corners of the mouth

 

Mechanism of Muscle Weakness:  There could be inflammation and compression of the nerve as it travels through the temporal bone of the skull. This inflammation causes the facial muscles on the affected side to become weaker or paralyzed due to the nerve's inability to transmit signals to them.

 

Other Symptoms of Facial Muscle Weakness:

  1. Dryness or Irritation of the eye

  2. Loss of the ability to smile or show emotions symmetrically

  3. Drooling

  4. Increased sensitivity to sound

  5. Loss of taste
