1. Injection for PCV and Penta

- Muscle: Vastus lateralis
- Origin: greater trochanter and linea aspera of femur
- Insertion: patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
- Action: extend leg at knee joint; rectus femoris muscle acting alone also flexes thigh at hip joint
- Location: While the baby is lying down with her thigh exposed, locate and identify the middle third of the thigh situated between the greater trochanter and the knee. Inject at the anterior lateral aspect of the identified thigh area.

2. Influenza Vaccination

- Muscle: Deltoid
- Origin: acromial extremity of clavicle (anterior fibers), acromion of scapula (lateral fibers), and spine of scapula (posterior fibers)
- Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
- Action: lateral fibers abduct arm at shoulder joint; anterior fibers flex and medially rotate arm at shoulder joint; posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate arm at shoulder joint
- Location: Allow the patient to relax their arm at their side. Identify the prominent bone at the top of the shoulder. Inject at the thickest part, which can be located by using the width of the finger two to three times down the lateral side from the acromion process.
