1. Anterolateral Thigh

Target Muscle: Vastus Lateralis

Origin: Great trochanter, Intertrochanteric line, Linea aspera of the femur

Insertion: Patella via the quadriceps tendon, tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament

Action: Extends and stabilizes knee

Locating: Gently palpate the muscle below the greater trochanter and above the lateral femoral condyle or knee joint. Vertically, divide the muscle into 3 equal parts. Administer the injection in the middle third of the muscle
2. Shoulder

Target Muscle: Deltoid

Origin: Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion, an spine of scapula

Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus

Action: Abduction, flexion, extension, rotation (medial and lateral) of the arm at the glenohumeral joint

Locating: Locate the acromion process (bony area that sticks out of the shoulder). Lay out approximately 2-3 fingerbreadths below the acromion process. That area should be just about above the level of the armpit; administer the injection there
