1. Throwing a baseball overhead:
- Deltoid
Action: It lifts the arm away from the body and bends it at the shoulder then straightens it out
Innervation: Axillary nerve
- Pectoralis Major
Action: Moves the arm outward and bends it then extends it at the shoulder joint
Innervation: Lateral and medial pectoral nerves
2. Kicking a ball:
- Quadriceps Femoris
Action: Extends the leg at the knee
Innervation: Femoral nerve
- Gluteus maximus
Action: Helps keep the knee straight by extending the thigh at the hip joint and rotating it outward. Innervation: Inferior gluteal nerve
3. Doing sit-ups:
- Rectus Abdominis
Action: Supports the flat muscles in compressing the abdominal organs then stabilizes the pelvis while walking and lowers the ribs
Innervation: Lower six thoracoabdominal nerves (T7-T11)
- Obliques (External and Internal)
Action: Bends and twists the trunk and it also helps with bending it to the side
Innervation: Thoracic spinal nerve (T8-T12) and the iliohypogastric nerve
4. Breathing:
- Diaphragm
Action: It activates to allow air into the lungs and enlarge the thoracic cavity
Innervation: Phrenic nerve (C3-C5) and lower intercostal nerves
- External Intercostals
Action: It lifts the ribs to make more space in the chest or widen the thoracic cavity
Innervation: Thoracic spinal nerves (T2-T12)
