1. How does the food change in consistency and form?

Food changes in consistency and form as it goes through our Gastrointestinal Tract, which consists of several stages. Firstly, it goes through the mouth where the food is chewed into smaller pieces and hydrolyzed. This then transforms food into bolus, specifically swallowable food. Secondly, after it passes through the esophagus, the bolus travels towards the stomach. The bolus is thereafter churned and hydrolyzed again for it to be transformed into chyme. The chyme then travels through the small and large intestines where it is hydrolyzed and absorbed into the body. The processed food then is expelled in the right time through the anus.

2. How could the body absorb the nutrients from the food we eat?

The Digestive System is able to convert foods into their simplest forms which are then absorbed in the small intestine. The walls of the small intestine more specifically facilitates this absorption by mixing food with digestive juices from the pancreas, liver, and intestine and pushing the mixture forward for further digestion. This mixture is then transported to the bloodstream where it is then supplied throughout the body.
