1. Briefly describe the process of inflammation in an area that has been traumatized.

In an area that has been traumatized, the process of inflammation occurs first with the vasodilation and increased permeability of blood vessels to allow more blood to flow, and defensive proteins to enter the affected area. Afterwards, phagocytes emigrate to the traumatized area to kill the microbes by the process of phagocytosis. It starts with neutrophils predominating the area, followed by monocytes that turn into wandering macrophages, but eventually die, turning into pus — a collection of dead cells and fluid. Lastly, tissue repair occurs.

  1. Choose one type of Immunity (Innate and Humoral) and explain how its mechanism protects our body.

Humoral Immunity, also known as antibody-mediated immunity, is one type of adaptive immunity that involves the binding of antibodies to antigens. It begins with the activation of B cell, where it transforms into plasma cells — secretors of antibodies — and memory cells brought by a specific antigen. Then, these antibodies bind with that antigen. Some actions of antibodies to fight off infection are neutralization of antigen, immobilization of bacteria, agglutination and precipitation of antigen, activation of complement, and enhancement of phagocytosis.
