Under the second line of defense of Innate immunity, our bodies can experience a fever. Fever is the temporary increase of our body temperature which happens mainly when microbes get past the initial or first line of defense (skin and mucous membranes). The elevated temperature of our bodies signify the start of a cellular mechanism that enhances immune cells circulating the body, and strains the pathogen or foreign substances penetrating our blood flow. Often times, we think of fevers lightly as an illness and expect it to be gone in a few days or weeks but with this information, we know that it occurs when our body comes into contact with foreign substances. After going through a pandemic, we must be wary of possible viruses in the future, hence we must always stay cautious and check the root cause of our fever and not be complacent.
