The inflammatory response is connected to the swelling of lymph nodes as it activated and coordinates immune cells within the nodes to defend against infections. When infection occurs, the immune system will identify them as threats and begin the inflammatory response. The lymph nodes will activate and transport fluid, known as lymph, away from the site of infection, for it carries the pathogens, cellular debris, and immune cells. This is then followed by the multiplication of immune cells, resulting in enlarged lymph nodes. I can now apply this learning in everyday life as I have always wondered why I could sometimes feel my lymph nodes being bigger than usual. Now I can associate swollen lymph nodes with my body's immune system fighting for my health and well being, and not to panic when the situation arises.
