1. Oxygen is needed to produce energy for muscles to contract and expand. Therefore, respiratory rates can increase when doing more movements or at the start of exercise to increase the rate of oxygen intake in the body

2. Moderate exercise calls for more energy usage than at rest due to the increased muscle movements that are used in the various activities. More energy usage means that it requires more oxygen through an increased respiratory rate to obtain such.

3. Abrupt ascent into high altitudes causes an increased respiratory rate because of the sudden change in oxygen levels in the air that we breathe. The body breathes faster in order to supply the necessary amount of oxygen needed for equilibrium

4. Since the phrenic nerve controls the diaphragm. Paralysis of such nerve will make it harder for the lungs to expand and contract and will result in respiratory difficulties

5. Anemia means that there would be a large decrease of oxygen in the blood because of a lack of hemoglobin. The respiratory system will react by trying to produce the oxygen that the blood lacks by increased respiratory rateĀ

6. During advanced pregnancy, the size of the fetus will be large enough to the point that it will compress the diaphragm and make it difficult to breathe
