Firstly, the facial nerve on the right side of the patient's face is affected by this viral infection. Cranial nerve VII's most prominent function is the movement of the face. If the patient is having a hard time moving the muscle on the right side of her face, it is very likely that the right facial nerve is affected. Next would be the glossopharyngeal nerve which is the nerve responsible for taste and secretion of saliva. Since the patient is experiencing loss of taste and dryness of mouth, it is reasonable to say that the glossopharyngeal nerve is affected. Lastly is the oculomotor nerve which is responsible for the movement of the upper eyelid and eyeballs.
