Patient's Condition:
The patient is experiencing the following symptoms:
- Inability to move the muscles on the right side of her face.
- Loss of taste sensation.
- Dry mouth.
- Inability to close her right eye.
Affected Cranial Nerve:
In this case, the affected cranial nerve is the right facial nerve (VII).
Functions of the Affected Cranial Nerve (CN VII):
- Motor Function: It controls the contraction of skeletal muscles of the face, including those involved in facial expressions.
- Taste Sensation: CN VII conveys sensory impulses from many of the taste buds on the tongue.
- Salivary and Tear Gland Secretion: It plays a role in controlling the secretion of saliva from the salivary glands and tears from the lacrimal gland.
