Cranial Nerves affected by the viral infection

  1. Facial Nerve (CN VII): Indicated by the inability for the patient to move the muscles on the right side of her face, loss of taste, and close her right eye because this nerve controls facial expressions, taste sensation (anterior two-thirds of the tongue).
  2. Glossopharyngeal Nerve (CN IX): Indicated by the dry mouth and the loss of taste because this nerve is responsible for the regulation of salivary glands and sensory input from the posterior one-third of the tongue.
