First Scenario
- Sites of injection: Anterolateral aspect of the thigh
- Muscle targeted: Vastus lateralis
- Origin: Greater trochanter and linea aspera of femur.
- Insertion: Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
- Action: Extend leg at knee joint
- How to locate: Identify the middle third of the lateral thigh between the trochanter major and the knee
Second Scenario
- Sites of injection: Deltoid muscle of the arm
- Muscle targeted: Deltoid
- Origin: Acromial extremity of clavicle(anterior fibers), acromion ofscapula (lateral fibers), andspine of scapula (posterior fibers).
- Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
- Action: Lateral fibers abduct arm at shoulder joint; anterior fibers flex and medially rotate arm at shoulder joint; posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate arm at shoulder joint.
- How to locate: Identify the acromion process where the head of the humerus articulates with the shoulder joint. Palpate the shoulder and place a finger at the dip/notch that forms at the joint after the palpation.
