  • Insertion: Insertion is onto the lower boundary of the mandible or the skin of the lower lip

  • Action: Depresses the mandible and lower lip and tenses the skin of the anterior neck

  • Insertion: Skin of chin

  • Action: Elevates and wrinkles skin of chin and protrudes lower lip

  • Origin: Muscle fibers surrounding opening of mouth

  • Insertion: Skin at the corner of mouth

  • Action: Closes mouth, purses and protrudes lips

  • Origin: Medial end of superciliary arch of frontal bone

  • Insertion: Skin of eyebrow

  • Action: Draws eyebrow down and wrinkles forehead

  1. Orbicularis Oculi

  • Origin: Medial wall of orbit

  • Insertion: Circular path around orbit

  • Action: Closes eyes

  1. Occipitofrontalis

  • Origin: Epicranial aponeurosis

  • Insertion: Skin superior to supraorbital margin

  • Action: Moves scalp forward, raises eyebrws, and wrinkles forehead skin
