  1. Throwing a ball overhead

  • Deltoid

    • Action: Arm abduction, which means raising your arm out to the side of your body

    • Innervation: Axillary nerve

  • Subscapularis

    • Action: Internally rotates and adducts the humerus

    • Innervation: Upper and lower subscapular nerve

Kicking a ball

  • Rectus femoris

    • Action: Helps with thigh flexion

    • Innervation: Femoral nerve

  • Gluteus maximus

    • Action: Extension, external rotation, abduction, and adduction of the thigh

    • Innervation: Inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2)

Doing sit-ups

  • Rectus abdominis

    • Action: Flexion of the trunk (flexion of thoracic and lumbar spine)

    • Innervation: Thoracoabdominal nerves

  • Transversus abdominis

    • Action: Maintain abdominal tension and support abdominal viscera

    • Innervation: Terminal branches of intercostal nerves T7-T11, subcostal nerve (T12), iliohypogastric nerve (L1), and ilioinguinal nerves (L1)

Breathing

  • Diaphragm

    • Action: Contraction of the muscle facilitates expansion of the thoracic cavity

    • Innervation: Phrenic nerve

  • External intercostals

    • Action: Elevate ribs during forced inspiration

    • Innervation: Thoracic spinal nerves (T2-T12)
