    Action

    Greater trochanter and linea aspera of femur. 

    Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament.

    All four heads extend the leg at the knee joint; the rectus femoris muscle acting alone also flexes the thigh at the hip joint. 

  • How to locate: Front outer side of the thigh (divide the thigh into thirds, the middle one is the injection site.

    Action

    The acromial extremity of the clavicle (anterior fibers), acromion of the scapula (lateral fibers), and spine of the scapula (posterior fibers).

    Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus. 

     

    Lateral fibers abduct the arm at the shoulder joint; anterior fibers flex and medially rotate the arm at the shoulder joint; posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate the arm at the shoulder joint.  

  • how to locate: Place four fingers across the deltoid muscle with the first finger at the acromion, the site is approximately 2 inches below the acromion process.
