- Platysma (origin=fascia, insertion=mandible, action=depresses the mandible and lower lip and tenses the skin of the anterior neck)
- Mentalis (origin=incisive fossa of the mandible, insertion=skin of the chin, action=raise the skin of the chin and move the lower lip in a protruding motion)
- Orbicularis oris (origin and insertion=within the tissue of the lips, action=controls shape and movements of the lips)
- Corrugator supercilii (origin=medial end of the superciliary arch of the frontal bone, insertion=skin of the eyebrow above the middle part of the supraorbital margin, action=produces vertical wrinkles of the forehead)
- Orbicularis oculi (origin of orbital part=nasal part of the frontal bone, origin of the palpebral part=superficial surface of the medial palpebral ligament, insertion=lateral palpebral ligament, action=closes eyelids either gently or tightly depending on which part of the muscle is used)
- Occipitofrontalis (origin=lateral 2/3 of the highest nuchal line and on the mastoid process of the temporal bone, insertion=epicranial aponeurosis, action=moves the scalp forward, forming wrinkles on the forehead)
