Activity 2. Reflection
1. What major challenge do you think you will encounter in applying what you have learned from anatomy?
It is an undeniable truth that online distance learning has brought challenges and difficulties in knowing and understanding the concepts of every course, especially with anatomy and physiology, which has lecture and laboratory components to help in grasping its concepts. Through anatomy and physiology, we are able to learn about body structures and their functions. However, a specific challenge that I believe I will encounter include the integration of the concepts in real-life situations and actual anatomical parts and functions, such as in cadavers and patients. For instance, we have some worksheets in the laboratory that we fail to do, because we are not in a face-to-face setting, and we do not have a place conducive for that activity at home. I believe that retention and mastery of such information about the applications of anatomy and physiology would be a lot better if we had the chance to experiment with them through actual laboratory sessions, as we could have seen and experienced them first-hand.
2. What are your plans to overcome this challenge?
Since there is not much that we can do right now regarding face-to-face classes, self-studying has been the norm in the past few years. Of course, with the course of Anatomy and Physiology, the theories and concepts concerning it should be understood first, before applying them into real-life situations. In line with this, it is essential to browse through and diligently read the textbooks and resources provided to us. Moreover, with the fact that I am more of a visual learner, resources in YouTube and other video websites concerning Anatomy and Physiology greatly help me in understanding and integrating the lessons and worksheets. Furthermore, learning strategies like making flashcards and active recall have such high impacts in learning and retention of the concepts in the course.
