Post-Lecture Activity: Respiratory System

1. Initiation of exercise - When initiating a exercise, the respiratory frequency increases rapidly. Because of this, the body uses more energy and therefore is in need of more oxygen.

2. Moderate exercise - Doing a moderate exercise means that our body requires more energy to perform the exercises needed. As a result, the body needs more oxygen to inhale and more carbon dioxide to exhale hence increasing the respiratory activity.

3. Asthma attack - When an asthma attack occurs, the airway of one's body constricts. Due to this, it would take more effort for oneself to breathe as it is harder for air to flow in and flow out of the lungs.

4. Abrupt ascent into high altitudes - As altitude ascends, the oxygen levels descends. In order to maintain bodily functions, oneself would need to breathe harder to obtain the same oxygen that they would get at lower altitudes.

5. Pneumonia - Pneumonia is a form of acute respiratory infection that affects the lungs. It produces fluid or pus that fills up the alveoli and making the person who has it hard to breathe.

6. Paralysis of Phrenic Nerve - The paralysis of phrenic nerve can directly affect the diaphragm. When affected, it results in reduced breathing capabilities.

7. Severe Tuberculosis with Resulting Lung Scar Tissue - Tuberculosis is a communicable disease that causes inflammatory to the airway, which makes the airway smaller. The scarring that it causes can result for the lungs to get stiffer and less elastic which can render breathing more difficult.

8. Severe Anemia - If a person has severe anemia, they normally experiences hyperventilation and rapid heart beat. This is the body's way to return oxygen levels back to normal.

9. Advanced COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) - OCPD causes the tissue where oxygen is exchanged to be destroyed. Because of this, lower level of oxygen gets into the body, and also results in difficulty to remove waste such as carbon dioxide out of the body.

10. Advanced Pregnancy - Due to the increasing size of the fetus in the uterus, It may squeeze the lungs and diaphragm and results in difficulty in breathing
