So when we experience stress, our body responds in kind, by activating the endocrine system from the hypothalamus which detects the stress, up until the high levels of cortisol stops the cycle by inhibiting the release of CRH from the hypothalamus. Specifically, when the body is experiencing stress, it triggers the hypothalamus to create CRH that causes a domino effect. It then goes to the pituitary gland to produce ACTH, which then goes to the adrenal glands in order to produce Cortisol, which is the stress hormone that increases in level whenever we are experiencing stress. This provides us with an energy boost to counteract or to respond to the stress. It is also an important part of regulating the body's immune system.
